A note on inflation and transplanckian physics

In this paper we consider the influence of transplanckian physics on the CMBR anisotropies produced by inflation. We consider a simple toy model that allows for analytic calculations and argue on general grounds, based on ambiguities in the definition of the adiabatic vacuum, that effects are expected with a magnitude of the order of H/Λ, where H is the Hubble constant during inflation and Λ th...

Transplanckian energy production and slow roll inflation

In this paper we investigate how the energy density due to a non-standard choice of initial vacuum affects the expansion of the universe during inflation. To do this we introduce source terms in the Friedmann equations making sure that we respect the relation between gravity and thermodynamics. We find that the energy production automatically implies a slow rolling cosmological constant. Hence ...

Transplanckian signatures in WMAP3?

In this note we investigate how a possible signal in the WMAP3 data of rapid oscillations in the primordial spectrum can be accomodated into an effective model of transplanckian physics including back reaction. The results, if due to a real effect, would indicate the presence of a low fundamental scale – possibly the string scale – around 2.2 · 10−5Mpl.

Supersymmetric Inflation With Constraints on Superheavy Neutrino Masses

We consider a supersymmetric model of inflation in which the primordial density fluctuations are nearly scale invariant (spectral index n ≈ 0.98) with amplitude proportional to (M/MPlanck) , where M ∼ 10 GeV denotes the scale of the gauge symmetry breaking associated with inflation. The 60 or so e-foldings take place when all relevant scales are close to M , which helps suppress supergravity co...

Unifying inflation and dark matter with neutrino masses.

We propose a simple model where a gauge-invariant inflaton is responsible for cosmic inflation and generates the seed for structure formation, while its relic thermal abundance explains the missing matter of the Universe in the form of cold dark matter. The inflaton self-coupling also explains the observed neutrino masses. All the virtues can be attained in a minimal extension of the standard m...
